Cambodia Plans to Build High-Speed Railway from Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville

SIHANOUKVILLE: Prime Minister Hun Senh has stated that Cambodia plans to build a high-speed railway connecting Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Pursat province in the near future.

Speaking at the Inauguration Ceremony of Road 146B connecting to Road 148 in Sihanoukville on Thursday morning, 22 December, Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that the current existing railway in Cambodia is not yet able to meet the demands of the growing local economy, hence more development is required.

He remarked that the construction of a new high-speed railway would not take long because Cambodia already has an existing railway infrastructure.

He added that the country needs to establish more internal linkages to lessen difficulties, eradicate poverty, and increase incomes for the Cambodian people.

"If we don't do this, things will remain the same,” he said.

Prime Minister Hun Sen further stated that a high-speed railway may be built in other parts of the country as well.
